My four year old received a paintable ceramic stocking in her advent calendar (filled each year by her nana!) this morning. She did not pass go, she did not stop to eat her breakfast, she got directly down to painting that thing. Here are a few shots of her efforts. I love that look of concentration she gets when she is involved in her "work" (as the Montessorians refer to it). I think this is the closest to nirvana any of us can hope to get . . . utter and complete absorption in whatever it might be that we are up to.
